Major advantages of VGA2SCART+FRC vs. FF-Card
- very cheap devices now are possible. E.g. you only need something like a D945GCLF (58,00EUR) + some memory (10,00EUR) to setup a SCART capable streaming device. This is considerably less than a FF-card alone would take.
- SPDIF is mutable
- providing the same picture quality VGA2SCART+FRC does not require expensive (regarding time and money) Mods like full-TS Mod, Memory(4MB)-Mod, Voltage-Mod
- no J2 expansion Mod needed (required for Nexus Rev. 2.1 und Rev. 2.2)
- no proprietary firmware needed
- a VDR now fits into very small cases. With clumsy FF-card this is not possible.
- due to the fact VGA2SCART allows to run a full blown Xserver on a SCART device none of these OSD-plugins (to provide a console, a musicplayer etc.) are neccessary any more. You can simply use your X11 favorite player, terminal emulation etc. directly.
- no special provisions needed any more to protect RGB output against electrical discharge. Expensive add-in boards like AV-boards etc. are needless.
- provides considerably faster OSD than a FF-card. Noticeable in particular when scrolling.
- boot screen now also displayable on a SCART-TV. Alternatively you can show a splash screen here.
- VGA2SCART even is running on many netbooks like ASUS Eee PC 701
- no VDR-Sanitizer needed. AC3 of conventional soundcards is understood directly by regular decoders/amplifiers
